We are excited to welcome you to the Alpha Lambda Delta chapter at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln! The executive officer team is working on creating a beneficial membership that will help you grow as a person through leadership, service, and scholarship. We have events throughout the school year along with awarding scholarships in the spring.
Alpha Lambda Delta provides the opportunity to be a leader on campus. Each year new officers are elected to continue to grow and improve the campus community. Being an officer allows you to grow as a person and make a difference at UNL and beyond.

If you are looking into becoming a member. This society has been honoring students who strive academically on the UNL campus since the 1970s.
Membership
How do I join Alpha Lambda Delta?
In order to be eligible to join Alpha Delta Lambda, you must have received a 3.5 GPA in the first year of college. The local chapter then sends out invitations to academically eligible students.
Can I lose membership in Alpha Lambda Delta if my grades drop?
No. Although ALD encourages academic excellence throughout your collegiate career, once you have met the criteria for membership and have been initiated, your membership can not be taken away. ALD seniors who graduate with the required GPA of 3.5 receive a senior certificate acknowledging their achievement. In 2004, the National Council did approve a change in the bylaws allowing chapters to remove from membership any members who had been found in violation of their school's academic honesty policy.
Dues
How much does it cost to join?
National lifetime membership dues are $25. In addition, local chapter dues are $10. The local chapter dues pay for chapter operating expenses (mailings, refreshments, service projects, local scholarships).
What do the dues cover?
For Alpha Lambda Delta, the national dues cover the cost of your membership certificate, a charm or lapel pin, and a copy of the national magazine, The Flame. In addition, you are eligible to compete for 35 undergraduate scholarships of $1,000 - $6,000; 23 graduate fellowships of $3,000-$7,500; and (starting in 2010) fifteen James G. Stemler Study Abroad Scholarships of $1,000 each.
Commitment
How much time commitment does Alpha Lambda Delta require?
Be as involved as you can be. While we certainly encourage you to be active in your local chapter's activities, there's no national requirement for activity in your chapter. You've already earned the grades, now accept the recognition!
What kind of events does Alpha Lambda Delta host?
ALD is dedicated to doing community service events, such as the Big Event, Letters to the Troops, and other service projects in the community. If there is some kind of event you would like to see ALD do, whether it is service-oriented or just for fun, email one of the officers with your ideas!
Can I be a part of other Greek organizations?
Yes, you can! ALD is a fraternal honors society that is coeducational, so you are still eligible to be a part of Greek sororities or fraternities. Also, if you qualify for any other honors societies, you are free to join them as well.
History of Alpha Lambda Delta
Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 1924 by Maria Leonard, the Dean of Women at the University of Illinois, to recognize academic excellence among freshman women. ALD operated as a single sex organization until the mid-1970s when we became coeducational in response to Title IX.
