Of all the jobs you could have on campus, what made you want to be a Peer Mentor?
I decided to become a peer mentor to help other first-year students who want to take advantage of their college years to grow and develop toward their goals, as that was something that I benefited from my first year on campus as a mentee. From my mentor, I was able to learn a lot about resources available and the best way to make connections on campus that I will be able to carry with me beyond my undergraduate degree and want to help empower other students to do the same!
If you could learn any skill or craft instantly, what would it be?
If I could instantly learn any skill, it would be the ability to pick up languages quickly. I love the idea of connecting with people from different cultures and really understanding their perspectives. Plus, it would make traveling and working internationally so much more fun and rewarding.
What’s one thing on your bucket list you know you’ll cross off some day?
One thing on my bucket list that I know I’ll cross off someday is traveling through every country in the Middle East. So far, I’ve explored 5 out of the 22 countries in the region, and I’m excited to keep discovering the rich history and unique cultures that each country holds.
What's your favorite way to de-stress or relax during busy times?
My favorite ways to de-stress during busy times include working out, going on walks outside, spending time with family, and listening to podcasts. These activities help me recharge and keep a clear mind and are not a big time commitment.
If your life had a soundtrack, what is your theme song?
If my life had a soundtrack, my theme song would be either "gra8ful" by Nadine El Roubi or "Time Goes By" by Mishaal Tamer.
You just won an all-expenses paid vacation. Where would you go?
If I won an all-expenses-paid vacation, I’d either go backpacking around the world or, if I had to choose just one country, I’d pick Malaysia.
What’s your favorite place on campus—and why?
My favorite place on campus is the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center (JGMC). It’s such a vibrant space that celebrates diversity and provides a welcoming environment for everyone. I appreciate the sense of community and have had the opportunity to meet some amazing friends there!
What's your go-to comfort food or guilty pleasure snack?
My go-to comfort food or guilty pleasure snack is any of my mom's homecooked meals.
What's one thing you wish you had known before starting college?
One thing I wish I had known before starting college is that you really get out of it what you put in. If you want to make connections, build a community, and excel in your classes, it takes effort on your part first. Others will contribute in order to help support you, but your own initiative is key.
