Of all the jobs you could have on campus, what made you want to be a Peer Mentor?
I believe that the first-generation student population needs all the support we can get because we are often the trailblazers for our family; doing what has not been done before. I also believe in giving back to communities, programs, and organizations that have helped my growth, and it makes me proud to see CAST grow through my time working with them, but also proud of seeing the impact that my experiences have on assisting the first-generation students who participate.
If you could learn any skill or craft instantly, what would it be?
I think playing the piano would be something really exciting to master instantly, as it takes many years to play complicated pieces.
What’s one thing on your bucket list you know you’ll cross off some day?
One thing I would like to experience is going to Antarctica to see penguins, and I believe one day I will be able to do so.
What's your favorite way to de-stress or relax during busy times?
I like to talk with my friends, play video games, and just live in the moment.
If your life had a soundtrack, what is your theme song?
As I believe we are ever evolving and exploring ourselves, I find it difficult to identify a song that uniquely resonates me with a whole, and as someone who loves music, I find it hard to select just one. I think right now, I think "Secrets from a Girl" by Lorde would be a good song.
You just won an all-expenses paid vacation. Where would you go?
I would pay for my mom to explore Spain, a country I have fallen so deeply in love with, that way I can share something I love with her.
What’s your favorite place on campus—and why?
Hamilton honestly is my favorite place, as I love seeing science in action, and while part of that comes with being a Chemistry major and stuck in that building for hours at a time each day, I do think it is a testament to the desire for humans to learn, and I love that.
What's your go-to comfort food or guilty pleasure snack?
General Tso's Chicken with white rice and an egg roll from Hong Kong Chinese on 27th and Capital Hwy.... and an unnecessary amount of crab rangoons.
What's one thing you wish you had known before starting college?
I have become a big believer in living in the moment, which is hard to say as someone whose entire academic career is dedicated to grinding, but we are only in college at this time once. We must give ourselves grace, do what we can, and appreciate what is around us.
