You can’t build a house without a solid foundation. And you can’t build a successful college career without understanding who you are, why you’re here, and where you want to go.
The goal of the First Husker foundational event is to come together and begin to understand what it means to be a first-generation student, and learn the skills and strategies you’ll need to thrive at the University of Nebraska.
As a First Husker, you have the opportunity to move in early, work closely with faculty and staff, connect with other first-gen students, and familiarize yourself with the campus and community. During the intensive 4-day event, you will reflect on your current learning styles, build new strategies, and begin to define your own personal goals. But, most importantly, you will start making a game plan to achieve those goals and tap into the support systems Nebraska has to get you there.
Students and families gather on campus Sunday, August 12 for a huge welcome event designed to ease anxiety and make important first connections. After bidding families farewell, First Huskers will spend the next three days building a solid framework for this important new chapter in their lives. There are panel discussions, information sessions, team activities, and community events that will help take the fear out of being a first year student.
